Hi, I’m Bernie — founder of Sarong Hut.

This brand wasn’t born from a business plan. It grew in the in-between moments of my life — raising two boys, balancing spreadsheets as an accountant, and later, flying across the country as a Qantas flight attendant.

Sarong Hut began in 2012 as a side hustle — a small idea tucked between early mornings and late flights. Then in 2014, everything changed. Chronic fatigue hit hard, and I was completely depleted. My body forced me to stop before I even understood what was happening.

Healing took time. I had to slow down, strip things back, and start again — not just physically, but emotionally too. And somewhere in that process, something shifted. Life became less about pushing, and more about ease. Less about doing more, and more about choosing better. Sarong Hut became an extension of that shift.

What started as a small side project grew into something much more intentional — a brand built around simplicity, freedom, and feeling good in what you wear. Every sarong is designed to be easy. Something you can throw on without overthinking — whether you’re at the beach, travelling, or just slowing things down at home.

I work in small batches with artisans across Indonesia and India, focusing on quality, craftsmanship, and pieces that are made to be lived in.
